Epworth Villa’s legacy of leadership

By the mid-1980s, ideas to create a United Methodist senior living community in Central Oklahoma had been around for quite some time. But ideas turned to progress when Bishop John Wesley Hardt asked Dr. Charles Wells and Dr. Elwyn Thurston to explore what it would take to create such a community.

A task force composed of reverends and leaders from the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church began exploring existing communities and surveying congregations to ascertain how much interest existed for such a community.
After an additional feasibility study reported favorably on the prospects for the idea, in 1987 the Annual Conference of the Church approved the creation of the Central Oklahoma United Methodist Retirement Facility.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held in May, 1989, and residents began moving into the community in 1990. In less than two years, the community was completely sold out.
Ever since, Epworth Villa has continued to grow and improve, and has been a leader in senior living in the central Oklahoma region. While we are proud of our history and so appreciative of all those who supported Epworth Villa over the years, we are most excited for our future and the opportunity to continue with our mission to serve seniors.
