According to the Oxford English Dictionary, wellness is a noun defined as “the state of being in good health, especially as an actively pursued goal.” We think that means a well-balanced approach to a healthy life challenges each of us to participate in body, mind, and spirit. So we offer a whole range of classes, activities, programs, and other opportunities designed to help you pursue wellness on your own schedule and at your own pace.
Working hand-in-hand with you, our Wellness Coordinator and personal trainer will help create a personal plan to help you improve strength, flexibility, range of motion, and stability. We offer a well-appointed Fitness Center open 24 hours a day that features state-of-the-art equipment designed specifically to be used by older adults. We also have an indoor heated swimming pool and Jacuzzi, and a wide variety of classes to help you achieve your goals and pursue your passions, old and new.
Balance & Reactive: This class includes a series of exercises that improve balance and coordination while building core and leg strength.
Chair Yoga: Move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement.
Cycling: A series of cycling exercises that include strength, endurance, and interval zones to create a great cardiovascular workout at your own pace. All fitness levels are welcome!
Flex & Stretch: In this class, you will learn different techniques to stretch and strengthen your body. These techniques also focus on balance and good posture.
Golden HIIT: High Intensity, low impact. This class is for those who are ready to take themselves to the next level!
Golden Swans: Lead by an Oklahoma City Ballet instructor, learn how ballet can help to improve physical mobility and increase mental stimulation. No prior dance experience required.
Limber UP!: In this class, you will learn different techniques frequently used with Pilates and Yoga to stretch and strengthen your body.
Line Dancing: A fun choreographed class with high/low-intensity dance routines.
PowerCircuit: A fun class that combines cardiovascular and strength training through circuits, stationary equipment and low-impact cardio exercises. Designed to improve functional balance, stability, muscle conditioning, cardio and core!
Tai Chi: A continuous series of controlled, usually slow movements designed to improve physical and mental well-being.
Water Aerobics: Using the resistance of the water, this low impact class focuses on movement of the whole body to improve muscular strength, cardiovascular endurance and range of motion.
Our residents are always learning and exploring new things. Programs include clubs like Inquiring Minds, where resident experts and guest speakers share presentations on topics ranging from history, music, and fine arts to mathematics, economics, and more.
Other clubs and study groups are dedicated to challenging residents to develop new skills, explore travel opportunities, and other special programs covering a broad spectrum of interests. We also have our own in-house television station, EVTV, where we offer visual museum tours, musicals and performers from around the world.
Epworth Villa is a strong, faith-based community rooted in the Methodist Church, but we are open to and inclusive of all faiths. We offer Catholic communion, many Jewish events, and welcome speakers representing varying faiths at Vespers, which offers ecumenical services.
We encourage each resident to be mindful of their spirit, however they may define that part of their life. We believe mindfulness helps us in many ways, from overcoming life’s challenges to helping us embrace the richness each day and each experience offers. Along with a strong body and a sharp mind, a vibrant spirit brightens our lives and the lives of those around us.
